To start with, we think that it is best for our clients to claim their Google My Business page themselves, and then assign us “manager” permission so that we can optimize and curate their listing.
For our clients that are not comfortable claiming their Google My Business listing themselves, we walk them through the steps to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Our clients maintain complete control of their Google My Business page, and we only claim a Google My Business listing with written permission from them.
When claiming a Google My Business page for a client, we use the client’s email address as the primary email address, not ours.
This way the client gets all communications from Google and will always maintain control of their listing, and we are still in the loop as a manager.
Likewise, we use the business owner’s or business’ phone number for the same reasons. There is a right and wrong way to claim a Google My Business listing, which is especially true if you are delegating the task to an employee or working with a SEM agency like Pull FX.
